The Sculpins (Perciformes: Cottidae) of Lake Baikal and Baikal region: updated checklist with the description of new tax

Abstract

The updated checklist of sculpins of Lake Baikal and its adjacent basins with data on nomenclature, diagnostic characters and distribution is presented. Currently, 42 species (38 of which are endemics to Lake Baikal) belonging to ten genera and seven subgenera of the family Cottidae have been recorded in Lake Baikal and Baikal region. The new genera Adipocottus and Alpinocottus and the subgenus Korotnevia have been described.
